The history and classic models of HAMILTON, a Swiss-made American watch

HAMILTON is a watch brand loved in the United States where it was founded and now captivates businessmen around the world. Inspired by a history of twists and turns, the watches of this brand have an isolated design sense that other manufacturers do not have. In this issue, we introduce the charms of the long-established American-born manufacturer ” Hamilton “!

What is Hamilton?

This long-established watchmaker was born in the U.S. at the end of the 19th century and now manufactures its products in Switzerland. The company has a pioneering spirit of development, including the world’s first LED watch, the “Pulsar,” and its models such as the “Ventura,” the world’s first battery-powered watch with a unique case design, continue to gain fans even today. The company has a history of supporting the development of the United States, such as supplying watches for the railroad industry and the military during wartime, and in its home country of the United States, it has a special presence that has been given as a gift for milestones such as college graduations and employment gifts. The company continues to offer an attractive lineup of watches, from elegant to American classic models.

History of Hamilton

Hamilton was born in an “immigrant town” in the good old U.S.A.

Hamilton was founded in 1892 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA. Most long-established watchmakers start out with a single founder establishing a workshop. Hamilton, however, differs from most watch manufacturers in that it was born from a rare background of mergers and bankruptcies of small and medium-sized watch companies.
Hamilton was founded on land in Lancaster owned by Andrew Hamilton, a lawyer who fought for freedom of speech, which gave the brand its name. Lancaster, which was formed by many immigrants from Germany, France, England, and other countries, had many skilled watchmakers, and it may be said that Hamilton is a brand born from a mixture of such diverse DNA.

Hamilton’s first watch was honored with the title of “Official Railroad Watch

The railroad network developed rapidly throughout the United States from around the mid-19th century. Hamilton’s early breakthrough came from supporting the railroad industry. Hamilton’s pocket watches were so accurate and durable that they were officially adopted as official railroad watches at the beginning of the 20th century.
The first pocket watch, introduced in 1902, was a superb model with a size 18 ” 926 movement. It was a longtime hit with a total production of more than 80,000 pieces.

The first series of pocket watches after receiving the title of “Official Railroad Approve” was an impeccable model with a highly readable dial and a luxurious case design, produced for nearly 30 years, with over 200,000 pieces produced.

Hamilton was a major contributor to the growth of the railroad industry, and its success led to the company’s sprawling headquarters building, making it an iconic Lancaster giant.

Hamilton’s development of military and pilot’s watches during the war

In 1910, with global war threatening to break out at any moment, Hamilton began supplying military watches, and in the 1920s, coinciding with the U.S. entry into World War I, the company began manufacturing wristwatches. During World War II, the company completely stopped producing watches for the general market. Hamilton produced watches for the military in all its improvements and sent an astonishing number of watches (over 1 million) to American soldiers fighting overseas.
Those manufactured for World War II were not only wristwatches, but also military watches that were used in training machine guns and bombers. The ” Bomb Timer (WWII) ” was mounted on bomb sights along with video cameras to record the exact time of attack when firing guns and bombs. The spine-chilling model name also gives a real sense of the historical background.

Many military watches were born during the war, including the “Khaki” series, which is now part of Hamilton’s main lineup, and the “CANTEEN or FROGMEN” watches, which are now coveted by collectors. Through the watches worn by U.S. servicemen and women in the war around the world, the name of Hamilton watches became known around the world.

While retaining its American DNA, the company’s Swiss-made timepieces are more precise than ever.

The world’s first battery-powered watch, the “Ventura,” was introduced in 1957, and its revolutionary technology and design made it the first watch to be introduced to the general public after World War II. 1970 saw the introduction of the world’s first LED digital display watch, the “Pulsar,” which was designed by the famous metal sculptor Arthur B. Hart. The prototype of this model, designed by renowned metal sculptor Ernest Trover, was a “computer on your wrist” that showed the world the company’s outstanding development capabilities in the field of cutting-edge technology.

In 1974, the company became part of SSIH (later to become Swatch Group), and has since become a full-fledged Swiss-made watch manufacturer. Hamilton began with railroad watches, then military and aviation watches, and now also the latest technology. Although the company’s base of operations has changed from Lancaster, USA to Bienne, Switzerland, the holy land of watches, the brand still fascinates the world with its unique creations inspired by the archives of the past.

Hamilton’s flagship model, the beautifully designed ” Jazzmaster

The “Jazzmaster,” named for its mix of innovation and modernity, like the harmony of music. It is the mainstay series among the current Hamilton watches, and boasts a rich lineup of models ranging from dress-like to sporty chronograph models. The “Jazzmaster Auto Chrono,” for example, is the ultimate in elegance and has the feel of a luxury Swiss-made timepiece. The design is authentic and timeless.

The “Jazzmaster” was born in the 1890s, the same time Hamilton was founded, and was introduced in 2005 as a tribute to jazz music, a music that symbolizes freedom, refinement, and aesthetics. The “Jazzmaster Open Heart,” which has been a top seller for many years, is a unique and sophisticated design with a peek into the heart of the watch, the movement, which gives it a tremendous presence.

The “Ventura”, a unique case design that symbolizes Hamilton

Since its introduction in 1957 after World War II, the “Ventura” has been Hamilton’s “iconic watch” and has many fans. In 1957, more than a decade before quartz took the world by storm, it was the world’s first battery-driven watch to use an ultra-compact electric motor instead of a mainspring as its power source, and it created quite a stir.

More than the technology, it was the design that surprised the world. The case, which overturned the conventional wisdom of the watch industry, was designed by Richard Arbib, who had worked on the design of Cadillac and other models. The innovative asymmetrical case attracted even Elvis Presley. The DNA of the original has been faithfully inherited in the current model, and even now, more than half a century after its birth, it has not lost its freshness.

Military, Parrot, Diver’s, and Hamilton’s professional “Khaki” series

The “Khaki” has its roots in the first wristwatch Hamilton created in 1917 for soldiers heading off to World War I. The “Khaki” has the most authentic air. The “Khaki Field,” which has the most authentic air, has its roots in the “Huck,” a military watch manufactured in the 1940s and used by the U.S. Army. With its lean form and distinctive military colors, it has a “genuine” feel that a fashionable military watch can never have.

The “Khaki Aviation” lineup includes a full-fledged pilot’s watch series, including a practical model that combines GMT and chronograph functions, and a professional version with an inner bezel that calculates the angle of declination correction.

The diver’s model ” Khaki Navy ” is a series that combines performance and beautiful design. The “Khaki Navy Open Water,” developed for the U.S. Navy’s special diving unit “Frogmen,” is symbolized by its rugged crown guard, and its unique design, as well as its water resistance to 100 bar, adds to its marine style. It is a unique design with a unique point of view that adds color to the marine style.

Hamilton watches loved by the movie industry

Hamilton watches are also famous for being used in many classic movies. In many cases, the watches worn by actors on screen have become the talk of the town, and Hamilton boasts the highest number of appearances of any watch brand.
As far back as 1961, Elvis Presley wore a Ventura in ” Blue Hawaii,” which led to Elvis becoming a fan of the watch. Similarly, the ” Men in Black ” series is another movie that expanded Ventura’s fan base.
Other films include “Ocean’s Eleven,” “Pearl Harbor,” “Die Hard,” “Independence Day,” and “Daredevil,” to name a few. Hamilton is a brand loved by actors and creators around the world, and has been used in more than 450 films.
